In this paper, we would like to make some remarks regarding the role of film criticism in the process of the revaluation and spread of cultural codes. Since the rise of cinema departments at universities, film criticism has changed, incorporating academic methodologies of analysis, theories from arts and human sciences, and specific spaces where films are publicly discussed (such as conferences, journals, and papers). University researchers are playing an important role as they bring mass culture to the center of academic concerns. By doing so, they create a bridge between popular culture and high taste, making easier the process of accepting movies as a legitimate object of study and proposing interpretations that reveal the codes by which artwork is created.
